Paleis van Engeland, Schotland en Ierland en het Hof van <strong>King Charles II<\/strong> waren in Huis Casselbergh gehuisvest van 1656 tot 1659.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Tot aan de restauratie van de monarchie verbleef King Charles II hier met zijn broers Jacobus, Hertog van York en Hendrik, Hertog van Gloucester. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Alle drie waren ze leden van de Brugse schuttersgilden van Sint Barbara, Sint Joris en Sint Sebastiaan.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">De Britse vorst richtte er tevens het eerste Regiment Garde te Voet op, later <strong>Grenadier Guards<\/strong> (1656) en de <strong>Life Guards<\/strong> (1658). Deze waren bedoeld als lijfwacht om de Lage Landen te verdedigen tegen Frankrijk in de Frans Spaanse oorlog. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">King Charles II hield van Vlaanderen en in het bijzonder van Brugge. De naam verwijst mogelijks naar Robrecht van Cassel, heer van het gebied rond de Casselbergh (Frans Vlaanderen). De belangrijkste bewoner van het huis was de Engelse vorst King Charles II tijdens zijn ballingschap (1656-1659).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Nadien werd het bewoond door de familie van Caloen en Jean-Baptiste de B\u00e9thune en zijn vrouw Emilie van Outryve d\u2019Ydewalle. In 1922 werd het huis aangekocht door de Stad Brugge die het inrichtte als kantoren.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Sinds 1959 waren de ruimtes Huis Casselbergh, de Zeven Torens en \u2019t Fransche Schild eigendom van de overheid en kenden grote delen van het gebouw een periode van verloedering omwille van leegstand.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Eind 2009 werd het Grand Hotel Casselbergh geopend. Dit na een restauratie van meer dan twee jaar. Het werd vermoedelijk gebouwd samen met Huis Casselbergh in de 13<sup>de<\/sup> eeuw, een belangrijk onderdeel van de geschiedenis van Grand Hotel Casselbergh. De bekendste bewoners van dit huis waren Juan Lopez Gallo en zijn vrouw Catharina Pardo. Juan Lopez Gallo was de zaakgelastigde van de Spaanse Koning Filips II.<\/p>\n<p>Het huis &#8220;de Zevens Torens&#8221; is daarnaast ook te zien op het 16de -eeuwse schilderwerk \u201cDe zeven wonderen van Brugge\u201d van Pieter I Claeissens.
